Naoto Fukasawa's Grande Papilio armchair takes the same organic shape full of fluid curves found in the original Papilio chair and draws it out into a larger and more statuesque form. While it shares several of the key attributes of the traditional wingchair – a large curved headrest and comfortable body-hugging shape – the Grande Papilio removes all other extraneous details. The result is a visually calming object that has a subtle presence in the room. Appearing like a single form carved, or perhaps poured, from a single material, the Grande Papilio armchair has a clever rear upholstery zip that removes all visible upholstery details creating a seamless sculptural object. As part of its remarkable comfort the design is equipped with a swivel mechanism that allows the user to rotate through 360 degrees.
